X clamp mod
The G.P.U. requires precision loading and gaping prior to
burnin. Most units will work even if the X clamp mod was done
improperly. However, after 1 - 2 months those units will fail again.

The 360 gaming console
Is a good system with a few design flaws that became a major
headache for MS and consumers alike. MS determined that the
over heating problem would be resolved by installing a bigger heat sink .
In the meantime owners where installing expensive external fans ( inter
coolers), in an attempt resolve the problem themselves. It was later
discovered the heat sink was not the source of the over heating problem.
.
The Good News
A few resourceful gamer / techs succeeded with a repair prosses when
they discovered it was the xclamp hardware that was causing the problem.
So they removed it, and replaced the clamp with 4 screws and nylon
washers to hold down the heat sink. That corrected most problems. More
good news with a cautionary note ; with the proper instructions for an x
clamp mod and proper technique and follow through you can successfully
D.I.Y. But be careful.

This is the point of failure. Small changes in the PCB surface due
to warping will literally pull the connections right off the board.
Base fractures at the board
The solder balls on the main board
and the G.P.U. will began to break
open due to thermal fatigue causing
The following problems : R. R. O. D
, lagging , Lockup - white vertical lines
The Results
After an xclamp mod repair most units will be working however the PC Board is
now under stress . This is the result of the Heat sink pushing down on the G.P.U..
After a period of time the board will began to warp due to heat and pressure ,
reducing the amount of force the G.P.U.s is placing on the P.C. board . And will
eventually result in a hardware failure .
Our process
How we fix this problem and prevent it from happening again .The board is
straighten and made flat. All of the connections are reestablished with specialized
re-flow equipment : designed specifically for the 360's C.P.U , G.P.U. , HANA
/ANA chip sets . Then the chips are securely clamp to the board in a way that
will not stress or warp the board . In the final procedures the units are subjected
to extensive stress testing to insure durability.
